F18 Mar del Plata Sailing Week 2024 final results

Excellent conditions for this 2024 edition of the Mar del Plata Sailing Week. The World known venue and regatta course for those extreme Opti photos taken by Matías Capizzano.
Four days of Northerly racing from 14 to +20knots and first days with big waves left by a Southern storm which always bring excellent surfing swells.

12 regattas completed, Agustin Krevisky & Juan Martín Benitez won over Cruz Gonzalez-Smith & Mariano Heuser (both teams Scorpion/1D) on a classic duel by now latest seasons, but with a local dominance by Krevisky-Benitez in recent championships.
Having Smith & Heuser making podiums at 2019, 2021, 2022 F18 Worlds and Agustin also in 2021, continues to elevate the local level.
Now Pablo Volker (2016 World Champ with JM Benitez) have re joined the Class after some Moth seasons and is looking forward to excel abroad, as he did 2023 Worlds at Travemunde with Fede Polimeni, dominating the Qualy series on an Akurra and giving themselves a good shot for the title.

Polimeni lives in Spain and traveled to Arg for this specific regatta, as the team is looking ahead Costa Brava Worlds 2024. But as Fede found out this week, leading a Worlds regatta is not guarantee you will come to race in Argentina and win it all. Aside both international crews mentioned above we have some others that don’t travel that much but are capable to deliver top notch performance.

Volker & Polimeni sailed a recently put together 2018 Scorpion, now equipped with a Landenberger DS, to progressive performance ending the event with three seconds. Although all F18s are capable and quite similar, you need to have some degree of adaptation coming from a Phantom or an Akurra in their case.

In the end the Arg local level keeps rising many teams are preparing to attend Ballena Alegre World Championships in July 2024.

In parallel to the racing activity we keep building the new local F18 project right there in Mar del Plata and we hope to have it ready in some weeks. More updates soon.
Yesterday I told the guys for the younger members to start thinking to organize a Worlds in Mar del Plata, long term project. I would be a great venue.
