Valencia Olympic Week 2024: A-Cat for Toni Ballester

VALENCIA OLYMPYC WEEK, Feb 17-18, 2024

Last weekend the OLYMPYC WEEK was held in the waters of the Real Club Náutico de Valencia. Many Classes present including A-CAT, F18, Hobie Cat 16 and Patín a Vela.

A total of 5 regattas were held. On Saturday the wind picked up very late and the first race was made with just 4 knots, the wind increased to about 7 or 8 knots and although the conditions were fair at the demanding the A-Class could be seen flying right at the limit . On Sunday the wind came in at midday and the 3 races held were done with much more pressure than the previous day. The wave, although it was not excessively high, made many of the sailors have to work harder than normal, as an example of this, take a look at the photo of Matti FIN-1.

On this occasion, A-Cat sailors from the Czech Republic, Finland and Poland came, in addition to the local sailors Abdón Ibañez, Rafa Gómez-Polo y Toni Ballester.
Vlada CZE-1, Matti FIN-1, Jarek POL-3 and Martin CZE-3 were putting pressure on the local sailors from race one.

Finally, the podium went to the locals who were most familiar with the local conditions.
Kuba Suroviec (2023World Champ) has been training all these sailors since Thursday and was also providing support to all of them during the regatta weekend.

In the words of many of the sailors “it has been a true pleasure and honor to have had Kuba training us all these days.” Although there was not much wind on Thursday and Friday, the fleet spent many hours training in the water both days. With very positive conclusions after these two days of training with little wind.

In the F-18 Lucas González-Smith and Simón Codoñer came in first place followed by the veteran Serafín along with Lucía Fayos and Marc Jovani and Enrique Martínez.

In Hobie Cat 16, Javier Milara and Javier Alcácer won the Gold, with 4 points after ruling out a second place and leaving the four sets. Miguel Ángel Martínez and Lucia García take the silver and 7 points. The bronze travels to Catalonia with Cristina García and Fernando García.

The Patín a Vela class has had the sailors from Catalonia as protagonists, taking two of the three metals at stake. Jordi Sánchez (Toni Rivas’ crew in F18) is proclaimed champion with 6 points. Jordi Maré is second with 9 points, while Sergi Mas takes the bronze.

REPORTE VALENCIA OLYMPYC WEEK
17-18 FEBRERO, 2024

El pasado fin de semana se celebró en aguas del Real Club Náutico de Valencia la OLYMPYC WEEK en las que compitieron los A-CAT en OPEN, F18, Hobbie Cat 16 y Patín a Vela.

Se disputaron un total de 5 mangas. El sábado subió muy tarde el viento y la primera salida se hizo con escasos 4 nudos, el viento fue incrementándose hasta unos 7 o 8 nudos y aunque las condiciones eran justas en las popas se pudieron ver a los A-CAT volando justo en el límite. El domingo el viento entró a partir del mediodía y las 3 pruebas disputadas se hicieron con mucha más presión que el día anterior. La ola, aunque no era excesivamente alta hizo que muchos de los regatistas tuvieran que esforzarse al máximo. Como muestra de ello, echa un vistazo a la foto de Matti FIN-1.

En esta ocasión vinieron regatistas de A-CAT de Chequia, Finlandia y Polonia, a parte de los regatistas locales Abdón Ibañez, Rafa Gómez-Polo y Toni Ballester. Vlada CZE-1, Matti FIN-1, Jarek POL-3 y Martin CZE-3 estuvieron presionando desde la primera regata a los regatistas locales. Finalmente el pódium fue para los locales que se encontraban más familiarizados con la ola que había en el campo de regatas. Kuba estuvo entrenando a todos estos regatistas desde el jueves y también estuvo dando soporte durante el fin de semana en la regata a todos ellos. En palabras de muchos de los regatistas “ha sido un verdadero placer y honor haber tenido a Kuba entrenándonos todos estos días”. A pesar de que el jueves y viernes no hizo mucho viento la flota estuvo entrenando en el agua muchas horas ambos días. Con conclusiones muy positivas después de estos dos días de entrenamiento con poco viento.

En F-18 Lucas González-Smith y Simón Codoñer quedaron en primer lugar seguidos del veterano Serafín junto con Lucía Fayos y de Marc Jovani y Enrique Martínez.

En Hobie Cat 16, se alzaron con el Oro Javier Milara y Javier Alcácer, con 4 puntos tras descartarse un segundo puesto y dejar los cuatro parciales. Miguel Ángel Martínez y Lucia García se quedan con la plata y 7 puntos. El bronce viaja a Catalunya con Cristina García y Fernando García.

La clase Patín a Vela ha tenido a los regatistas de Catalunya como protagonistas, al llevarse dos de los tres metales en juego. Jordi Sánchez (proel de Toni Rivas en F18) se proclama campeón con 6 puntos. Jordi Maré es segundo con 9 puntos, mientras que Sergi Mas se hace con el bronce.
