Formula 18 South Americans Day 1: Raw Talent

How is possible to dominate a fleet without training, trimming, no measure,  mast rake… what is this? No gauge tension reference, no rig tuning, loose traps, no smooth cunningham, a crew debuting on an F18 and some other horrors on a 2003 design (Capricorn) with training sails against super trained crews with the latest equipment?

Well is quite easy: Raw Talent, and that’s what Agustín Krevisky has, a former Optimist World and Vice World Champ showing us today that no ‘arm race’ can beat a talented sailor like him.

Hat off to Agustín and his rookie crew for their performace today in light tricky conditions (1,1,6), I even took his boat to the venue last week so I can assure it was total a mess, he told me: “Martin, just put it together for me”… I only trimmed the doplhin striker (loose all the way) and check the trap shockords, that was all I did as the boat needed a week of tuning and I didn´t have the time.

What can this guy do with a little more training in more wind (he will need to maintain rythm with tomorrow expected blowing offhore) and new sails just  freak some of us.
Deserved lead for the first day of the South Americans, and another proof of how the F18 is an incredible formula box rule. Latest C2? MKII? Wildcat on steroids? No, a just a good ‘old’ Capricorn with training sails is all that you need to perform if you are a good sailor.

Two championships in one, today we have 3 boats from Chile plus the two Uruguay crews already racing since las weekend. Incredible view for us having 20 boats racing. Points from all 5 days counts for the BA Week and the last 3 days (today, Sunday and Mon) will count for the SAs as a separated event.
Pics and more reports tomorrow.
