Italy F18 Worlds 2021 update

Olivier Bovyn, President of the International Formula 18 Association informed the IF18CA World Council that the 2021 Worlds NOR will be published soon. Also early registration fees will end March 31st. But they need to put up a registration form online asap.

One of the considerations to be made is that for ie Australian sailors will had a hard time attending due to local Aus travel restrictions. Same might happen (again) with Arg sailors as local inept gov might close airports again as they did in 2020, literally closing them.

8 months for nothing, already discussed, but the point being we need things to get moving again and those willing to live a normal life respecting any local protocol they should be allowed to do it, those in risks groups will need to stay put and take extra care.

Italian organizers in current scenario cannot be held responsible, or the IF18CA for that matter, on World wide govs restrictions, as long of course Italy wont put restrictions on their own to travel to Gaeta and race. There we will have a real issue to call the event a Worlds Championships IF say Italy only allows Europeans sailors to attend.

But lets hope not to be the case. Optimist Worlds will be held in Garda this season so things might look good for the F18 ones.

In the middle of the pandemic in 2020 the IQFoil and Formula Foil Classes held their Worlds with a massive attendance, Argies could not attend on our own local gov restrictions, it wasn’t an organizers prerogative and its the same case with 2021 F18 Worlds.

Take in mind again my Arg friends will book travel, F18 charters and they are even buying boats to race in Italy, but given the case and local nuts gov close borders again, all those plans will be cancelled. So its a first hand experience that can happen to us Arg sailors, but either way the 2021 F18 Worlds must be held no matter what IF Italian authorities put no restriction to travel and participate in the event.

Lets cut it out, its enough, time to live again with due care, those not able to travel, we will need to call our politicians and put pressure on them, as the guys are comfortable earning their salaries we payed out of our work and taxes (when we are able to work by the way…) and moving freely no restriction, so its a good time to stand up and fight for our rights.

We are not obedient zombies without reasoning or common sense, we are sailors and freedom is our first nature, never give up your rights that easily, less when no certain horizon for these restrictions to come to an end is in sight.
