Americas Cup: Footage of TNZ AC75 Capsize

Photo source Emirates Team New Zealand fb. Nothing unexpected really, as the prototypes already struggled and capsized in light winds. We don’t know the actual situation of pics above, but it doesn’t look that windy.

Learning curve for sure, but the flaws of this complicated concept are there. Cats capsize in the breeze, they are not free of guilt in that area, but a monohull going down in conditions above is not a good omen.

The classical combination of sudden increase of AWA due to relative slowing + downwind slight slide, then massive pitch up on main Ts followed by ventilation at the Ts-leg junction…..massive braking at touch down and AWA diverging, sails too tight….capsize….

Wouldn’t fancy crossing oceans on one, but could make for dramatic race incidents.
    A bit like motogp….
