Nacra 17s @Miami WC 2016: Day 5

Images: Jesus Renedo / Sailing Energy. Full album at their Fb Page. – Waterhouse & Darmanin maintained lead from yesterday , while Buhler & Brigger from Switzerland finished the stage previous the Medal Race in second place. Along Mulder & de Koning these 3 crews are in good position to take the event. Lange-Carranza are 4th overall but 40pts behind the top 3.

Big news for the day was the classification to Rio for Pablo de Fazio & Mariana Foglia from Uruguay. Both new to Multis but with a great heart for training & learning. I spent a day with them here in Buenos Aires on the water along Andrew MacPherson (Macca) , who is their Coach. Great work by the Team and an historic achievement for Uruguay, which will bring more awareness to Cats in our neighbours waters.
In the end the road to Rio got a little more  clear when Lange-Carranza from Arg got their slot finishing 2nd at the 2014 Worlds.

But it was not a walk on the park for them, with Lange out of the way they  still had to fight the continental assigned place against two of the best H16 sailors out there like Yamil & Andrea Saba from Venezuela and Jason Hess & Irene Abascal from Guatemala.
In the end the specific preparation and focus on a long haul project on the Olympic goal pay high dividends to the crew from Uruguay. Quite happy for them and also for Andrew MacPherson, definitely one of the sailors with more technical knowledge in the Catsailing community and a great guy.

Canada also got their ticket to Rio, Luke Ramsay & Nikola Girke finsihed 15th overall to win the North American waiver from long time Olympic Tornado sailor Enrique Figueroa & Franchesca Valdes (Puerto Rico). Medal Race tomorrow for the top ten.
