GT 300 Starts on Wednesday (Live on SA)

By Ryan Verret—
“I wanted to let you know that up here in Texas, we’re about to start
the GT300 4-day, 300 mile catamaran distance race. You can find more
information on today’s home page of Sailing Anarchy, as well as at
www.gt300.com. This year, we’ll not only have Mr. Clean of SA live
streaming the event, but we also have our own live coverage, as well
as SPOT-based live tracking. We also have our own channel on
Justin.TV, and just tonight we had a live broadcast covering the “big
boats” of the event: an ARC 22, and two Nacra Carbon F20s:

You can find the live video and tracking here, too:

The first leg is this Wednesday. I’m not sailing this year – I have to
be at work until the weekend – but we can follow the race live thanks to Clean and Sailing Anarchy.

SA is working hard to promote catsailing, but as I onced said the problem is that in the future all racing will be done in Multis , HP Skiffs and hydrofoils, and someone will create the blog “monohullsailingnews.blogspot.com” ….

Trying to make sense of Cleans chaotic self-absorbed video SA Live stuff is a miserable waste of time.

Get someone to write 300 words at frequent intervals, explaining the conditions and team progress, with good team quotes via phone/radio.
Tracking is OK, video is OK, but well written news updates are scarce in all these distance events.

The idea of taking phone calls or chatting on the radio while sailing a beach cat at 20 knots in big seas is classic…

Anybody who claims they are doing 20 knots all the time on a beachcat, is most likely a prima donna with delusions…
