Eurocat 2011: Final day Wrap Up

Photos: Pierrick Contin www.PierrickContin.fr

Great reward for Mischa Heemskerk and Bastiaan Tentij the Cirrus R responded to their sailing level. I told Mischa we would make an interview after Carnac, so now is the right time to do it.
Manu Boulogne must be flying, having his brand relaunched with the new Cirrus R, and in a bold move hiring one the best crews ever on the class.

– So that anomymous was right, the winners of the 2011 Eurocat are Mischa and Bastian on the new Cirrus R.
– The Italian Dark Horses, Bissaro-Cesari were 6th with a bullet, so I think they have a good season start.
– The local youths, Lecoublet-Flocher also did well with a 10th overall with a Capricorn powered by Landenberger
– Coen and Thijs want their World title back! and the Nacra boys were short for the full podium.
– Bundock and Jeroen maintaining their high level with bullets and several seconds, and about the BFD, well better to have them now that at the Worlds!

Thanks to Pierrick Contin www.PierrickContin.fr,
Franck Gicquiaud www.littoral-ouest-photos.com
and Alex Udin for the photos.
And finally to the organizers, the Yacht Club Carnac www.yccarnac.com for putting up such an annual event, only behind the F18 Worlds and right there with the Texel

The SI Phantom had some structural issues today after leading on the first day.
Below a mail sent by Udin:
“It was a very exciting week-end for us since it was the first outing for our new
boat.
Results at the first day were very promising (leading after the first day)
after only 4 days of testing.

Unfortunately structural problems on the boat forced us to abandon on the last day.
This is of course a disappointment but Rome was not built in a day.
We are very confident that these problems will be fixed soon.
The Phantom slip out and will be back on the stage very shortly…”
Alex

Olivier Backes: I was very happy about this sailing week for two reasons : First I had not sailed since 6 months, and second I sailed on brand new boat just out from the mould! Feelings were pretty good. Only after a few hours sailing the boat we managed to take the lead on the first day which was really cool! It has been a pity that due to structural issues we could not defend our leading position on the last day. I can not wait to sail with her again.

Martin Fischer:
I was very happy that I could make it to Carnac to be present at the first real test for the boat. I was of course very disappointed when Olivier and Arnaud were forced to abandon on the last day due to structural problems with the boat. Nevertheless, the first results were very promising and we’ll be back soon.
