All this is wonderful, except for that 'Pro' element.

Basically, Russell hopes to cash in, on development done by long term multihull pioneers.
Do you think everyone can go pro? The AC45 and X40 and Blue Water gang, of course. The A-class and F18 also?

    Blackburn :- )

They are Professional sailors and making an excellent work to promote the F18 and catracing in gral, even sailing as a sport, with this event.

    What is your problem?

My problem? Aside from not being able to shut up? LOL. There may be a gradual segmentation of the class over time if a small group actually do make a profession out of F18, which started with a different idea. Here is the concept according to monsieur Bovyn a year ago:

"When we thought about a concept aiming to facilitate fun and fair competition to the largest number of sailors, whatever gender, body shape or weight they could be, we would never have imagined F18 to meet such a success…"

I very much look forward to seeing the Teamrace Knockout, but I think it is best if they are mostly amateurs, not professionals. 😉

Blackburn, I used to think you were amusing, but now you are just being a pain in the ass!

You clearly don't understand the motivation of the group working to make the team racing event a success.

It's about promoting cat sailing and opening it up to a broader audience. If we had numpties like yourself with your attitude then nothing positive would ever happen. Get off your little pony and get involved or piss off!

Most of the sailors ARE amateurs, do your homework Blackburn.
The amateurs are just really good and give the so-called pro sailors a real run for their proverbial money.
This isnt F1 where being pro means you drive a Ferrari and make a shitload of cash you know.

Just enjoy the broadcast and have fun!

Your posterior is overly sensitive? lol
This camerawork and web-broadcast is a terrific idea (I made a post begging for this kind of stuff, at TDS after Eurocat last year). You just have to keep an eye on that ~Pro~ element, to avoid the trouble it has led to in the rise and fall of other formulas we have seen (and taken part in).

And I did do my homework, but maybe your dog ate it?

  8. Editor says:

The F18 Class is better than ever, with the "Pros" included, and I think having committed sailors like them is part of the success of the class.

You live in a imaginary world, amateur sailors do not have the time or $ to spend in organizing such an event.

The F18 "Pros" are a key part of the Class, do your homework, no coincidence that someone is asking you to get involved as I told you to join me building cats…

Now try to 'shut up' (using your own words here!) if possible till monday and enjoy tomorrow's broadcast!!

Next week we'll have a chat with Bovyn on the class, and with a french sailor over the youth sailing in his country.

Have paid my dues, compadre. And I know of amateurs who did things similar to this, over 20 yrs ago, involving TV race broadcasts done with cam on model helicopter.

F18 stars probably would not mind, if you stopped calling them ~Pros~.
Some impresario might get inspired to find money and set up a new circuit, and they certainly wouldn't like that!

    :- )

  10. Editor says:

Again, do your homework: 'Compadre'???! wtf?? come to BA for the 1st F18SA and you'll learn something about idiosyncracy…

'Pro' doesn´t mean wealthy, it just a way to describe sailors living out of sailing. Amateur spirit or not, Olympic or Panam sailors dedicating 100% of their time training and racing can be described as 'Pros'.

In our fleet we have some of them, being payed, the same in Europe or USA,Aus, committed sailors, but they are not your weekend amateur catracer, so they are sailing 'Pros' , nothing wrong with it.

Off to boatyard and racing F18 tomorrow against some Pros, I'm a 'Pro' I'm living out of this.

I think its great that I can mix it up on the start line with "pros". That is what makes the F18 class so great.
    Blackburn you are a fool.

Blackburn maybe you are an old dog that is too old to learn a new trick..and that is how great the F18 class is. Ever been in an F18 event?

  14. Anonymous says:

    Maybe I am, maybe I amn't,
    maybe I have, maybe I haven't.
There are anyway doggies older than me
    who did such tricks before.

May portend senility, that I can't locate where I said that the F18's were anything less than great?

    B -)

chill out guys. the event is a great opportunity to get sailing a mutlihull closer to the public and more interesting to watch. A very good initiative by sailing addicts who wish to make a nice spectacle with these great boats!

cheers to the organisation and guys who made this happen!

a spectator who enjoyed the battles on the water yesterday!!!!
