Landy always showing he is the best sailmaker and top 10 cat sailor in the World.
Almost clinched F18 title his year at Nigran, and now he is showing good form for this A-Class Worlds 2009 to be held in a few days.

Dave Brewer in good shape after being strucked by lightning !!

How exactly do you come up the fact that Landy is the best sailmaker and top ten cat sailor in the world??

He was beaten by two sailmakers in that exact regatta, and he was never in the hunt for the title at the F18 worlds in Nigran..

  2. Editor says:

Never? Just review per regatta results in this same page.
In Nigran he was top 3 just 2 race to go, he clearly lost the possiblibity of the top 3 in with that late 33.

To me is the best sailmaker, so nothing to argue there.

He is top 10 on F18 and A-Class last Worlds… so there you have an irrefutable proof…jaja!

He was Torando Olympic medalist too, and I really like his sails!

So which is really YOUR problem with Landy??

    Take it easy.
Who is your best sailmaker? Pablo Soldano? Greg Godall? Performance Sails?

    I like Landy´s.

    Cheers,
    Martin

No Problem with Landy, but your missing the fact that Gashby has won 5 A cat worlds and at least 1 F18 worlds plus a Silver Medal and he’s a sailmaker…

Also Steve Brewin has won an A cat worlds and finished top ten at F18 worlds. Oh and he makes sails..

Landy hasn’t won a worlds in A cat or F18… I think he won a Moth worlds sometime in the last century 🙂

    Of course! Ashby! I agree.

But just give me a break here, I know Glenn has “Ashby Sails”, and he has won everything by now.

But he is surely better known for his riding than for his sails you´ll agree.

If we talk “mainstream” sailbuilders I would say Landy is more reknown and for sure sells more product than Glenn (correct me if I’m wrong) , I mean when I wanted to buy some top quality sails for our F18 some time ago I had in mind Ullman and Landenberger for their work with Tornado, F18 and A-Class.

And I know first hand Glenn can´t sell F18 sails cause he has a development contract with Hobie!

You´re right he is not the best sailor that can build a sail, I must point though he is (lets say) top major builder-sailor then.

If this guy can make top ten finish in F18, A-Class, Tornado and Moth and he also builds one of the more re-known sails around, for sure he is on my list.

For now I can´t buy F18 sails from Glenn for ie!

Cheers and thanks for your feedback.

I’m not going to keep arguing with you. I just don’t think you have a full grasp of what makes a good sailmaker v’s a good sailor…. and buy changing the definition of who is a “mainstream” sailmaker just makes it impossible to reason against.. Ashby makes a lot of sails (he has a loft with staff and makes the most A class sails of any loft in the world) Oh, and Ashby can and does make and sell F18 sails I could list the boats at the Worlds that had them if you like… Nice Blog by the way.

  6. Editor says:

    It’s OK.

“Mainstream”, “full time professional sailor”, just labels as you say.

Well he told my partner that he couldn´t sell us F18 sails as far as I know, in NZ Worlds previous Beijing.

Is not arguing, just opinions, we all have our owns.

So Landy ends 3rd at the A-Class Worlds, nice result for him.

Of course Glenn is in another league…
