F18 ARG, BA Week 2022: Krevisky & Benitez Champs

Past four days we had a major regatta here in Buenos Aires, one of the biggest local multiclass events. The Buenos Aires Weeks 2022 held at the Yacht Club Argentino. From the four scheduled days we raced three as Saturday we had +38 knots gusts. All activity was suspended.

Rest of schedul in the F18 we completed 4, 4 and 3 races each day, with several conditions. Lots of fun racing F18 again.
Agustin Krevisky & Juan Martín “Tigre” Benitez ( Scorpion / 1D) swept the fleet with 8 bullets out of 11 races.
Second place overall and getting pace again after a year without activity for Juan Pablo Sucic & Juan Cruz Benitez sailing my former recently assembled Scorpion / Landenberger DS , that I had to sell on force majeure reasons, and third place for Pablo Volker & Franco Gentile (Phantom F18 / Landenberger DS).

We raced with a Phantom F18 / 1D DS I got in exchange, which still is an updated contender, super fast, only we need to get on rhythm once more, specially in maneuvers. We also came back to shore on Sunday and missed 3 races on being too damn cold… things that come with age… and wrong guessing climate & temps.. hehe old rookies! We put good hours though in this regatta towards the Arg Nats in 2 months.

Highlight for me was seeing one of my kids, Tomy, getting a 10th overall over a 140 beginners Opti fleet. Glad he likes sailing and is hooked for more. Advanced fleet will be a tough transition next year, but all part of the learning process.
Idea long term is to race with my kids F18 and them to continue in the future. Also I have to regroup and assemble another Scorpion when possible.

Winners dominated in every condition, calm winds, even on Sunday’s extreme shifty offshore conditions in front the City, or yesterday’s mid range. Also they grabbed the Challenger Cup which awards the best overall performance through the participating Classes.

We shared the course with the 29er Class, and experienced some close encounters…! Photos: SBA / YCA 2022.

Some crews missing as they are participating in Clearwater for the 2022 F18 Worlds which will start tomorrow:
