F18 Arg. Mar del Plata Sailing Week 2022: Gonzalez Smith & Heuser 1st

Images by Matias Capizzano & Karina Sansarricq. Excellent racing week at Mar del Plata, Arg. Some of the top local F18s teams raced in every wind / waves conditions plus a Live Medal race held inside Port.

Cruz Gonzalez Smith & Mariano Heuser (Scorpion/1D) dominated the pack, 10 bullets out of 13 races. The top Arg crew continue their drive looking forward to the international 2022 season, targeting more podiums around the Globe, with schedules Euros at Garda and Worlds in FL.
Capizzano got some great shots from them during week, like this one and top above. Mar del Plata is an epic place to sail, ask the US kids who travel annually to Arg main Ocean Course venue.

Agustin Krevisky & Juan Martin Benitez finished second overall (Scorpion/1D) . The event saw a a nice fight for 3rd overall, Pablo Volker & Octavio Doberssan (Phantom F18 / Landenberger DS) went to the hunt leading the Medal Race from the start, finishing second while covering their rivals for the 3rd overall.
Francisco Ventucci & Nico Quagliotti finished 4th overall and had a great event, coming from a 2nd at the 2021 Arg Nats.

It was the official return to the F18 for Volker, former F18 & 420 World Champ, after I got him a lent Hobie Wildcat & my Landy DS in the Arg Nats in Nov 2021. He got hooked again with the Class in that race, and for this regatta Pablo went with his recently purchased 2012 Phantom F18 + a brand new Landenberger he bought from Felix Egner.
It was an excellent chance to test this DS against the Worlds #2 & 3# , both with super proven Scorpion & 1D platforms, and also three more Phantoms F18 equipped with 1D too. All boats Cirrus mast.

The goal as reported some weeks ago is to have more sail alternatives, and the Landy DS delivered in every possible wind condition. With a boat that needs much pending care and tuning. Nice feeling to have Felix’s sails racing locally again, as Landys were the first imported sails I brought to Arg back in 2008/09 for our RC F18s.

I still have to complete assembly of my Scorpion, hopefully racing soon again and definitely want to attend 2023 Mar del Plata’s regatta.

Arg racing season will begins now, just after summer vacations. Top Crews will be training towards Worlds and Euros podiums once more.
