F18 ARG: Mar del Plata Sailing Week 2020: Win for Krevisky & ‘Tigre’ Benitez

All images by Matias Capizzano / Semana Internacional del Yachting, Mar del Plata 2020. Additional week shots published here. – Another Epic regatta at Mar del Plata, the South Atlantic providing challenging conditions for the last two days. Tight racing on the Course with constant placement changes, but Arg Champs and 6th Overall Costa Brava Worlds 2019, Agustín Krevisky & Juan Martín ‘Tigre’ Benitez (Phantom F18/ 1D DS / SI Spi&Jib) scored 6 bullets, and top 3 spots, but a 6th to win over another Arg Champ crew, Sergio Mehl & Nico Aragones (Scorpion/1D).

Agustín & Tigre couldn’t race the last too as they pitch on a wave and broke spin pole. Same for others during the week, this on the wave size and going upwind or on the bareaway.

Third place overall for Christia Vilate & Ocatavio Dorbessan (Scorpion/1D) , this crew keeps improving with each event and will be looking forward to next Worlds in Italy to join the other top ten crews the Argie fleets has right now from last Worlds.

World #3 Team, Cruz Gonzalez Smith & Mariano Heuser (Scorpion/1D) finished 4th on a mast break going double trap downwind in around 12-14knots. New DS may restrict mast rotation and standard curved boom height placement can affect a mast break. We recommend to out the curved boom attachment at the mast base, as the A-Cats are doing and Esteban Blando did here on his Phantom F18 2 years ago. Cruz & Mariano were lucky to found a Cirrus mast we sent there last year but was never prepared. A hard night of work put them back on track the next day. These two are used to endure hard situations, out and on the water. No other option if you wanna reach World podium behind Bundy & the Flying Greeks…

Next we will held the Arg Nats in this venue, located 400kms from Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata offers World course racing level. I also spent some of the best years of my life surfing her shores.

On the winners , Krevisky & Benitez, they will also be targeting 2020 Worlds in Italy, last year the finished as best C2 of the fleet, a charter one. For coming Worlds they will point even higher, as I’ve been pointing out for many years Cruz & Mariano were going to reach podium level at the F18 major regatta, Agustin & ‘Tigre’ will be reaching to same spot.

Already mentioned many times, but worth reminding Agustín is an Opti World & Vice Champ, while ‘Tigre’ won the 2016 F18 Worlds in Buenos Aires along Pablo Volker. With a title on his shelf already he wants to add a Crown from an event abroad.
