A-Cat German Nats 2019 @Circolo Vela Arco: Mischa Heemskerk 1st

All images by Elonora Aiori / Circolo Vela Arco. Full gallery at CVArco – Mischa Heemskerk (DNA F1x / Mischa Sails) obtained this weekend another Title in the A-Class. Mischa has been dominant in the European scene for years now and have also won the 2019 World Title against several Aussies at Weymouth, one thing pending for Mischa, if any.. is winning over Ashby. In 2015 he gave away advantage disclosing his DS sails development before the Worlds to Glenn, the title race at Punta Ala was too close on the water but Ashby prevailed in the end.

At Arco this weekend Mischa won but as usual for the local Euro regattas, but gave away a couple of bullets to Paul Kohlhoff (D3/Brewin) , a rookie in the A-Cat but a top gun in the Nacra 17 Olympic Class. Paul has shown incredible speed in the N17 and applying his skills to the A-Class I think it will be a great asset for him and his crew. They are not yet qualified for Tokyo but great chances still available.

Great to see new faces in the A-Class like Kohlhoff along Alex Meister, also from Germany who won last week at Garda and finished 4th this weekend behind constant podium attendant Sandro Caviezel (Scheurer G7/ Landenberger)

Konstantinos Trigonis (D3/ 1D) goal for this event was aiming for the podium, he had a good start placing a second behind Mischa in R1, but later had a bad pitch pole bearing away, injuring his scalf. He continued racing but later had all DNC, bad luck for Kostas who trained hard for the event, but many more chances will come and the 2020 Worlds at Tampa Bay can be a good target to achieve his peak performance in the Class.

The German Nats podium then was:

  • 1st Paul Kohlhoff
  • 2nd Alex Meister
  • 3rd Bob baier
