10th Dutch Dragoon Cup @Catclub Zeeland

Photos & Report sent by Kees Krijger. Great to see how Belgian & Dutch kids sailing cats so young. Respect for the elder sailors organizing the Dragoon Cup each year.

The 10th Dutch Dragoon Cup at Catclub Zeeland, Veerse Meer, the Netherlands.

After a very wet day on Saturday with 3 races, fortunately on sunday 4 races could be sailed in very nice conditions, including a “long distance race” around the island in front of CatClub Zeeland.

There was fierce competition in varying conditions, especially for the Dragoons it remained exciting until the last seconds who would become the winner of the Dragoon Cup 2019. The prize went to Jules van Poppel (also the youngest participant!) and Felien Piessens from Royal Belgian Sailing Club (RBSC). The Belgians also took home the medals for the 2nd and 3rd place. Chapeau!
In the past Henri Demesmaeker was one of the RBSC winners of the Dutch Dragoon Cup and now has several world titles in different catamaran classes. So compliments for RBSC for coaching these young talents so well!

With the C3 / C1 class (Hobie 16 and Nacra 5.7) the 1st place was for Catclub Zeeland members Rex Caminada and Jamie Wissekerke. They managed to win every race on handicap and thus became undisputed winners in the larger cats!

And it is a cliché, but actually all sailors were winners . Patiently they find their balance in very little wind, continue when they are cold, stay sharp after a too short night’s rest, but still deal very well with big gusts of wind. Thank you all all for your participation, we enjoyed it!
Also special thanks to all parents and volunteers, who make it possible that these young kids learn to sail in regattas.

Met vriendelijke groeten,

Kees Krijger
