Nacra 17 Europeans 2017: Day 2, “Chupacabra” Style

Australian Coach Darren Bundock is Now Helming at European Cha…
Darren G Bundock is one of Australia’s best-known sailors, having taken two Olympic silver medals and piles of World Championships. The Australian Sailing Team multihull coach didn’t expect to have to take the tiller here at the European Championship, but he’s as laid back as ever as he explains what happened to Nacra 17 skipper Jason Waterhouse and how it feels to be racing Olympic class boats for the first time in years.

Nacra 17 European Championship
Quite an historic day for Olympic Sailing in the Nacra 17. Nacra 17 teams were sailing as well as upwind as downwind with the much flatter foiling kites up. Light weather sailing will never be boring again! Catamaran Racing, News & Design Sailing Anarchy Nacra 17 Sailing

For  the 2008 Olympics Pablo Soldano developed along Olgeltree, Figueroa & Booth a specialized gennaker to be used upwind. Devel based on the light wind conditions expected for those games.
The code zero created a big turmoil in the Tornado Olympic Class at the time, and many went rushing to build theirs. Before the final measure of equipment, forecast looked unstable and only the US team decided to present their “Chupacabra” spi.  Huge bet, which didn’t payed in the edn as wind was nowhere light as expected.

Today at the 2017 Europeans they replicated the upwind use of the MKII gennaker as can be seen in pics above.
