A-Class North Americans 2016 @Newport: Sept 12-15

Nothing better than a preview from past year NAs is to watch again Nick Bowers / Kettle Cinema’s clip from 2015 North Americans. definetely one of the best sailing shorts ever made.

44 boats registered till now for the 2016 A-Cat North Americans 2016 to be held at Newport
– 2015 NA Champ Matt Strubble will be attending,  Bruce Mahoney (Vice in 2015) , also Bora Gulari, Steve Clark and Ben Hall and Bailey White (3rd in 2015) with the new Exploder AD3.
Matt won last year on a lent Exploder but he will race his own design this year with production Dna foils. Some F1s will be racing , surely Bruce’s one so it will be a great event to follow. More details next week.

Plenty of action at Rhode Island these weeks, along the A-Class North Ams The Foiling Week (check previous post) and the US Diam 24 demo will take place at Bristol, RI more info here.

Saturday, September 10th
Early Arrivals
10:00 – 18:00 – Boat Measurement for those boats that need certificates.
Location: Mule Barn
Note 1: The fees for measurement certificates:
$75 for sail measurement certificate
$25 for boat measurement certificates
Note 2: For those interested, Saturday morning Carla will be conducting hands on measurement training with a focus on sail measurement.

Sunday, September 11th:
9:00 – 17:00 Equipment Inspection

Location: Mule Barn
Those bringing measurement certificates will need to present their certificates, Equipment Inspection Form and boats to the class measurer for spot checks and stamping. Your boat must be derigged.
13:00 – 16:00 – On Site Check-in

18:00 – 20:00 – Opening Reception sponsored by Zhik and Team One Newport

Monday, September 12th: First Day of Racing
10:00 – Skipper’s Meeting at Sail Newport
12:00 – First Warning
18:00 – 19:00 Start your evening off with some refreshments at International Yacht and Athletic Club

Tuesday, September 13th: Second Day of Racing
12:00 – First Warning
15:00 – 21:30 – Fleet Dinner sponsored by Hall Spars
Location: Ben and Nan Hall’s place 67 Riverscape Rd Tiverton RI – plan on about a 45 minute drive from Sail Newport. Carpooling is strongly suggested. The plan is to start the festivities shortly after racing is done for the day, but not sooner than 1700.

Wednesday, September 14th: Third Day of Racing
12:00 – First Warning

Thursday, September 15th: Last Day of Racing
12:00 – First Warning
Awards Ceremony – 2 hours after racing completed and boats on shore.
Friday, September 16th:
All boats must be removed from Sail Newport by the end of the day.
