Tornado racing: Season opener at Germany

Team Gabler: Roland and Nahid, in one of the best Tornado pics I’ve seen, full flying power for the T.

This was the perfect start of the multihull sailing season in north Europe. The high-pressure area, which we have been loyal to weeks here in the north, has also given us the best weekend of all sailing conditions.

Nordic fresh, so we’re used to, the easterly wind with strong gusts on Lake Schwerin. So cold and strong that we and many other teams with your tornado rotates one or the other stunt and plug. But somehow we were able to save over the course without major failures, and won the first race of the season in Tornado with positions 2-1-1-1-1-1.

This week we go to St. Petersburg to the Conference of the International Sailing Federation ISAF. There, by the final vote of sailing disciplines instead of the Olympic Games 2016.
Since it was just right that the winning teams in the Tornado, Hobie Cat and Top Cat were all mixed teams. Sailing as a couple is simply a lot of fun. We think: This must be an Olympic sport. In 7 days we’ll know it.
