A-Cat: A15 Z22 Retrofit flight II

Two weeks ago I went out again to sail the A15 I retrofitted with Z22 and 388mm winglets, sail Landy DS from our good friend Felix Egner. This is a platform sister to another A15 I already published from a friend in Mar del Plata. Big diff is I still haven’t changed the rudders systems, it has original

swing down Alu castings stocks with the 388mm winglet upgrade.

Main foils are Z22 that fit no modification whatsoever and also keep inner 1,75mts rule in place.

Couldn’t sailed this platform since before the total lockdown 6 months ago. I was eager to sail it coming from an A14 with factory foils / rudders. JZ was the most I fitted to that one.

Although I could foil rather well with the A14, the new set of foils / winglets showed a big gap in performance, mainly on speed. In fact I wasn’t that comfortable first rides out. And I literally bailed out from a similar ride above when the turbo noise started peaking.

But I was decided to push further next one, I managed to maintain course in video above. Which is by no means any extraordinary speed, around 20.5-21knts by gps (on Sonycam).
Here I bailed out too after the peak speed in the end but with more “control” … I’m old & rusty spare me the style and fitness…

Yes I have to sand those winglets edges to get rid of the annoying buzz.

Need to keep training and pushing more, check the North Americans Virtual Regatta where they are reporting 29knots peaks by GPS.

That speed is the one I have reported till now as max by Mischa and Bundy for instance but with previous F1 & D3 versions.

Lets see who con break the 30knots barrier, if not done yet.

If you are a member of the US or Canada A-Class Associations, you can enter the virtual regatta sending your gps data / video and match your speed against the top riders in North America.
