Worrell 1000 2024 for Burvill & Puttman

Worrell 1000 2024 Final Results

Brett Burvill & Max Puttman won this weekend the coastal Endurance regatta by excellence, the Worrell 1000 Race. Brett described it as the Everest of Catamaran racing, and it indeed it is a great challenge to sail 6 to 14hs hours every single day, launching from the shorebreak, and enduring any king of condition the East coast can throw at you.

Brett & Max won 11 out of 12 legs, with Randy Smyth & Dalton Tebo winning the remaining.

Second place overall for this 2024 edition went to Pete and Bailey Skewes, both teams sailing Brett and Max Edge/Nxt Gen Sails combo
Third overall for two great guys, Mannu Boulogne & Matthieu Marfaing on board the Cirrus 901, they performed well in every condition, from light 4-5knots upwind to fast reaches and downwinds. Happy for Manu on the hard work he always do, a truly sailor builder like Brett, both putting plenty of hours on the water.

Next big regatta for these teams will be F18 Worlds 2024 at Costa Brava, already 126 boats registered.

I followed the Worrell each day and when waking and these guys were already on the water, at night when were having diner while the fleet was sometimes on the dark navigating in the dark to next leg finish.

The Formula 18 has several raid type regattas like Archipelago Raid, St Barts, Croatian Challenge and many more, but none compare to the preparation, logistics and hard raw F18 sailing required to complete the Worrell 1000.

A shout to our friend Sam Carter, racing with Ian Ray, going for good recovery after dismasting. Respect for all the teams racing the toughest F18 regatta out there.

Hats off to the teams and their shore crew and of course the organization led among others by John Williams in the RC and Beverly Simmons on the media. Coverage was really good in terms of live streams (plenty of them here) and info on results, live tracking et all. Quite complete resources to follow it daily via their FB page, only thing they need to get some pics even from cels just to publish along press releases or updates.
