Oracle AC72 Training vid: Jump & Pitch

You can´t have that pitching motion in a controlled environment. We all know they are testing, trimming, tuning etc. But that platform is only fast & safe when fully airborne. This 72 is pure gambling at SF. Video by Andrew Wisner, posted in comments.

This thing is scary and dangerous

  2. I disagree. I think this sport at its best. They will work out the details and this will be the greatest sailing event in history. Finally a boat that keeps everyone one their toes. It reminds me of slalom windsurfing… When you are lit up the board does that exact same thing. That extreme energy has to go somewhere.

  3. I Love this.

It does not look 100 pct but off-course they will try different things…… some will be good other things will be bad. They have to find the limits and challenge them.
Im a BIG Oracle fan even if I have to admit that the previously quite boring ETNZ now also looks cool on the vids.
The Italians still look a bit dull and so does Artemis but still loads can happen and they are clearly learning a lot from each others.
Maybe this will be the first AC that comes down to sailing skills rather then design ???

I've sailed high performance cats for 47 years. In the right (wrong) conditions they're all scary/dangereous…That's why I like them!!

“You’re closing at 50 or 60 knots, 100 kilometers an hour. It’s pretty full-on,” says Kiwi skipper Dean Barker, describing pre-start encounters. “(But) what I’ve learned is that in these boats, there’s no way to be conservative. You’re safer when you’re pushing hard.”

All beautiful comments, but this is no small cat racing, a capsize and you lost the Cup for good, no matter if you were 10knots faster.

Racing F18 , AClass , H16 or whatever you just get up and continue pushing hard, in the AC72 they are done.

And I think this Cup will be won by the last 'man' standing..

I'm also afraid that we will see more major disasters.
So let's just hope we will see some high-speed racing before the cup is handed over!

How close to the edge do you think this was?
