The SL16 International Class Association has organized from the 26th to the 28th of April its first SL16 International Training at Carnac in France.
This voluntary clinic was first held to prepare youth team to ISAF Youth Worlds next July in Croatia. But it was also opened to all SL16 sailors of any level and ages to prepare SL16 Open Worlds which will be held at Pyla-sur-mer in France from 24th to 31st of July.

Teams from Singapore, Ireland, Great Britain, Belgium, Spain and of course France were trained for free by older SL16 sailors and champions such as Vincent GUEHO, President of the SL16 French Class Association and 2010 SL16 Open World Champion, and Arnaud GAUTIER, President of the SL16 International Class Association and 2007 Spitfire European Champion. 10 teams were sailing the training, just before the famous European catamaran competition, the EurOcat, at the Yacht Club of Carnac (France).

The daily training program was composed of physical preparation and tactic briefing in the morning following by 4 to 5 hours of sailing in the afternoon, with speed test and races at the end of the day. Beautiful training days under the sunshine ended by sailing movie analyses taken by SL16 coaches. On Thursday evening, a precise study of Quiberon bay allowed teams to understand current and wind subtleties before the EurOcat.

During the Eurocat, 18 SL16 of 6 different countries and 2 different continents were fighting to win the European title. The French team from the Yacht Club of Carnac, Pierre RENAUD and Pablo MATHEVET won 5 races on 6.
The first SL16 International Training was a great success, all youth and adult teams enjoyed their venue and will come back for the second International Training which will be held at La Baule (France) from the 27th to the 30th of June, just before the ISAF Youth Worlds. This time, teams from USA, New Zealand, Netherlands, Spain, Great Britain, Ireland and more will be there to prepare ISAF Youth Worlds and especially the SL16 Open World Championship.
