The Nacra 17 fleet used at Trofeo Princesa Sofia the updated Olympic format, Mateo Majdalani , President of the Class explains below to Nacra 17 media IG orig link here:
Q:We are with class president of the NACRA 17, Mateo Majdalani.
Mateo, we have a new format that we are testing here in Palma de Mallorca. Can you tell us a little bit about it?Mateo: “Basically we start with three days of preliminary regatta in which the fleet is divided in two groups. Those two groups then go into gold and fleet and the top half sail for two more days in the elimination series. Then the top 10 out of this gold fleet goes into the final series in which we do two final races with the top 10 boats.
So when we finish the elimination series, each boat carries the rank as points. If you qualify sixth, you carry on six points and so on.
The whole fleet compresses again. The idea of trying to implement this format in these big regattas as similar as possible as the Olympic Games. That’s why we compress the preliminary series in just one race.
And then we will have roughly the same amount of races that we will have at the Olympic Games.

Nacra 17 Princesa Sofia 2026 Final Results
Day 4
Training gains account for a strong, consistent run so far in the Nacra 17 by regatta leaders Emile Järudd and Hanna Jonsson who have overcome a flu virus to build an eight points lead over compatriots and training partners Ida Svensson and Marcus Dackhammer. 2024 Olympic silver medallists Mateo Majdalini and Eugenia Bosco had a collision before the start of the day’s first race which broke their boom. A replacement was brought from shore and the Argentinian pair – who train with both Swedish boats – have to count their DNC (did not compete) and so drop to fifth.
Jarudd and Jonsson, 2023 world bronze medallists, are going for their first major regatta win together.
“We feel so good, we have kept it simple all week, not least because we have both been sick, we are really happy. Having Swedes top two proves our training is paying off.” enthused Jarudd.
Final Day
The Nacra 17 fleet was first to wrap up, and also the first to race under the new format: two final races instead of a single double-points medal race. It definitely kept things open a bit longer.
Sweden’s Emil Järudd and Hanna Jonsson had already put themselves in a strong position going into the final day, leading the fleet after a seriously impressive week. What makes their win stand out even more is what they dealt with off the water. Both had been sick during the regatta, and were also coping with the loss of their grandparents.
They could easily have let that affect them, but instead they just kept pushing. They won half the races they sailed this and looked in control pretty much all week. On the final day, they stayed calm, finishing 5th and 2nd in the two finals, which was more than enough to secure the overall win on 20 points.
Behind them, Argentina’s Mateo Majdalani and Eugenia Bosco finished second, while Britain’s John Gimson and Anna Burnet came through late to take third. It hadn’t been their best week overall, but they stepped up when it counted, finishing 2nd and 1st on the final day.
Ida Svensson and Marcus Dackhammar, who had been right in the mix all week, had a tough last day with two 10th places, dropping them back to fourth.”
