Nacra 17 Worlds 2025 Final Day

Breeze on for the last day of the 2025 Nacra 17 Worlds at Cagliari set the stage for one of the best live streams we’ve seen. Drones + following cams through waves at full speed upwind, and excellent takes made for an exciting regatta to follow.

The new format a la Sail GP defines 4 final teams after the top ten former Medal Race. Those four teams then go to sail a last final race to establish the top 3 spots. Why four and not five? We don’t know.. Whichever the case, the dynamic turmoil of the last fleet race was gone with only 4 races on the course.

The British & Italians teams had a good fight in that four boats race, but when you lost the rest of the fleet pursuing for a better final position you’ll  have less alternatives for tight fights and different possible results. Reducing the number of boats just makes the scenario more lull and predictable.

Thinking people are stupid is to take for granted that in an F1 Worlds Championship the crown cannot go to a driver that finishes say 5th in the last race of the season, to grab enough points to clinch the title.

Beyond this new format, what a hardcore Class the Nacra 17 has become: The epitome of performance sailing. 
Not that the Nacra 17 per se is the most refined foiler out there but it provides such an effort from the crews, more in this last breezy final day.

We are Proud of the Nacra 17 sailors pushing that hard, showing the essence of Catamaran Racing at its Best: Speed, Thrill & demanding boa handling no other dinghy Class can deliver.

Congrats to John Gimson & Anna Burnet for the 2025 Title, the British team continues to be a benchmark team for two Olympics cycles with no sign of lowering their level for the third one.

Another shout to the Australian Liddell team, after a second place in the 2025 F18 Worlds, Brin Liddell sailing with Rhiannan Brown went full charge on this Nacra 17 Worlds to reach the final race and grab a 4th overall.
