Tornado Worlds 2025 Day 2: Extreme Heat, Patient Wait – Rewarded with Late Racing

It was a really hot Day 2 in Kalamaria, with temperatures soaring to 39°C and the wind taking a holiday—at least until late afternoon. Sailors endured a day ashore in cool lounge rooms provided, eagerly waiting for the breeze to fill in.

Finally, around 5 PM, the wind arrived, and the Race Committee wasted no time. AP came down at 16:30, and the fleet hit the water with determination—and perhaps a little too much eagerness.

As Race 3 began under a U Flag, the tension was palpable. Five boats, including all of yesterday’s top 3, were on course side scored with UFD—a costly mistake that shook up the standings, at least temporarily. Taking full advantage of the opportunity, the Dutch newcomers Tjiddo Veenstra / Stephan Dekker sailed a stellar race and crossed the line first in Race 3, placing themselves into the spotlight.

Race 4 started in a promising 12-knot breeze that faded fast, dropping below 5 knots by the finish, making it a struggle to reach the finishing line. However, Nikolaos Mavros / Polydoros Parianos bounced back after their earlier UFD with a commanding win, building an impressive lead ahead of Michaela Pavlisova / Marek Pavlis, who held strong in second.

With plenty of racing still ahead, the leaderboard is wide open as the points are very close.

After-race Souvlaki party waited crews, families, friends, and volunteers.
