F18 Worlds 2025 Noordwijk 2025 Day 4

Finally wind came in, late in the day as the forecast announced, but what a relief to the sailors & Org alike to be able to complete four races for each group making a total of six and most important a Valid Championship.

Hot performance in both Blue & Yellow fleets with many different winners. Best of the day went to that rookie Darren Bundock & Bjarne Bouwer. Yesterday we said Bundy was out of sync but it seems that ‘intensive’ training in one race on the high breeze and another in calm winds were enough for him and his crew to dial in the F18 Title search mode to score 3,3,2 & 1 for the day. It was not a walk in the park either way, the bullet came after an incredible tight fight vs Argies Krevisky & Benitez who got Bundy & Bouwer under control racing head to head till last gate where Krevisky led to the last upwind leg but let Bundock to the left and he didn’t covered.

Later Agustin told me some teams were crossing downwind and he didn’t wanted to risk and went for clean air, fatal decision letting the Aussie alone, and that was the space Bundy needed to get ahead and never looked back.

The Argies had a great day with Gonzalez Smith & Heuser getting 9,1,6 & 2 for a second overall. Cedric Bader & Yves Peter super consistent but a protest left them with a DSQ on their R5 bullet. Protest was done by Brin & Jake Liddel and the tracking shows Bader on windward didn’t stayed clear. Pity for the French team now in 10th position overall.
Another French team, Erussard & Moreau climbed to third overall. 2024 Champs Volker &Polimeni had a working day, with some great saves coming from behind.

In the Yellow Blue fleet Burvill & Puttman pressing to recover from that UFD: 2, 12, 9, 1 for a 7th overall. The 2nd was a bullet robbed by Ruben & Rita Booth.

Colby-Colman were fast enough to leave Bundock and Krevisky wondering in R4 but later on got some tricky tactics and a bit of bad luck to relegate more key points.

Brin & Jake Liddell were overall leaders up to R4/R5 but a 17th on the final race of the day put them back in 5th overall. Great regatta for the N17 Aussies, more with a lent Scorpion and 2023 well used 1D sails, which were working pretty good considering the state of the other top teams equipment. Hope they can race 2026 Worlds in AUS and get more F18 racing.

Perfect day of F18 sailing, a Fest. What a great Class, when I’ll retire I will run for President just to stream races Live, ha! Same for the A-Cat ones.

Tomorrow Gold & Silver fleet. Hopefully four more final races can be held, which will provide 10 total.
