A-Cat Worlds 2024: Punta Ala, September 7-14th

Punta Ala, Italy. September 7th-14th 2024

2015 was the last time the A-Cat Worlds were held at Punta Ala, Italy. It was an historic regatta who brought to life the new Decksweeper mainsail, which Mischa Heemskerk developed to a working solution.
Pete Melvin already used one in 2014 Worlds, he reached top spots to windward but he had issues downwind.
Thus the key moment when the DS was regatta proven were some weeks before the 2015 Worlds.
Mischa killed Ashby sailing a standard mainsail in some warmup races in the Netherlands within the DNA camp.

It was maybe the biggest share and immediate impact of development ever made in the A-Cat, as Glenn went to cut the top of his mainsail, added some dacron/window cloth to boom/foot area and went to hunt Mischa some weeks later at the Worlds. Basically without a DS mainsail, Glenn didn’t had a chance.

I went to Punta Ala on my own to report, and was lucky enough to witness first hand an epic battle for the title, Mischa and Glenn were simply playing another sport within a magnificent venue like Punta Ala located in the beautiful Tuscany region.

So don’t you miss the opportunity to race in one of the best venues for Catamaran Racing in the World.

2025 Worlds will be held in New Zealand as informed by the IACA: OFFICIAL – The 2025 A-Cat Worlds will be held at Manly Sailing Club, North Island, New Zealand. Dates – 8th-16th November 2025.
