Report sent by Jens Hanneman – “The Hobie World Cat has find it’s end after 9 intense races over 4 days in heavy conditions. In this year’s 3rd edition, 8 nations have participated on the island of Sylt, North Sea, Germany. This regatta is a Prosail regatta event organized by Detlef Mohr & Willy Trautmann and the racing format is on Hobie 16 with on shore races which attracts a very enthusiastic crowd on the Brandenburger Strand.

Live commentators and interviews are given out on the beach in order to explain to the public how the regatta and rules work on the water. On the first day, 4 races have been completed in 12 to 18 knots of breeze and 1 meter seas. After the first day, team New Zealand has been leading followed by Australia and USA.
On day 2, 3 races have been sailed in 20+ knots with 1.50 to 2 meter short sharp seas. Intermediate results have not changed until then. Day 3 got canceled because of extreme sea conditions and risk of 50 knots coming through.
