“The New Zealand Tornado Championship was held at Tauranga over the weekend, with 9 races completed in a range of conditions.

A fleet of 8 boats raced for the cup in the fantastic sailing conditions over the two days.
The NZ Tornado Cup was first sailed 45 years ago, in 1971, with a number of great sailors winning it, including Olympic Gold Metal winner Rex Sellers.
Bill Caunce and Aaron Duncan with some great sailing in the light conditions on Sunday, managed to overtake Julian Tankard and Tom Blampied and take the championship.

Bill first competed in the Tornadoes in 1981, and after 35 years finally won the New Zealand Championship.
A special thanks needs to go to Jason Marra who with his team of helpers arranged a great event. They also organised a Drone cameraman to take some footage of the racing. Apart from getting some great footage, he also manage to capture one of the resident sharks cruising the racecourse”.
