A-Class French Nats 2014, Day 2: Gabart leads, Besson 2nd.

F18 French Nats 2014, Day 2: Haineville-Haineville lead

Close racing after 6 'manches' completed. Charles Haineville & Maxime Haineville are leading by 3 points over Gurvan Bontemps & Benjamin Amiot, who won today's 3 races .
Charles is also racing in the new Diam 24 Trimaran Circuit.
Third place for Thomas Normand & Antoine Joubert followed close behind by the kids that I told you were going to perform: Lois Berrehar & Hugo Le Pomelec. Both crews showed lots of potential at Carnac.

F18 & A-Class French Nats 2014

Both events are being held simultaneously. Billy Besson & Gabart are sailing the As at Cercle nautique La Baule and another super competitive fleet is racing in the Formule 18 at Yacht Club Bray Dunes
Every year I try to remark these classes need to coordinate calendars, as they both might lose competitors to each other event.

Nevertheless two great championships in of the leading catracing countries.

Excellent racing conditions in both venues, with 10-15knots , 3 races and +40 boats fleet each.
Charles Haineville leads in the F18 and Jean le Coq in the A-Class.

More info, pics and results later when available.

GC32 Austria Cup 2014: Day 1

Mattia F18 & Oxo Sails: Winning Combo

Local equipment is winning races in Italy. Report sent by Marco Radman: "In this first part of the 2014 season in we are seeing two Italian designs doing well. The first is definitely the Banga F18 built by Luca Filippi sailed by Saragoni-Filippi, and the other is the Mattia with the new Oxo Sails by Manuel Vaccari.
Oxo Sails is a very well known sailmaker in the A Class among others.
This year Mattia F18 crew, Radman-Cioni, is sailing with Oxo Sails (Main, Jib , and Gennaker).

The first two races of the national F18 circuit went very well for us, with two wins at Punta Ala and in Vada (look results in www.formula18.it )! The mainsail "Testatonda" seems to have a lot of potential and it works superbly in upwind."

F18 Worlds 2014: @Bangor, Ireland, July 4-11th

The entry list is getting filled with some talent. The Eurocat @ Yacht Club de Carnac saw great racing with new big players performing like Iker Martinez and new Safran skipper Morgan Lagraviere. Eurocat 2014: Long Distance Record for Bontemps & Amiot on the FP

Great Image above by Pierrick Contin taken at Carnac, click for HQ - Eurocat Raid Video footage by Catsailingnews. --
Long Distances regattas are for taking your best weapon and breaking records, as Sunnucks has been doing for years at Carnac & Texel with the Marstrom 20, and then Nacra with the F20c.
Bontemps-Amiot went with the Flying Phantom to Carnac, and it took them 2 hours 5 minutes and 20 seconds to complete the Eurocat 2014 Raid, smashing the previous Eurocat record by

Remembering Andrew 'Bart' Simpson

A Sailing Centre & a Global Regatta are great ways to honor a sailor's memory. Details posted at 'The Bart Project FB':
---
"May 9th. It’s been one year already. Many of the times I have sat down to write the next update for ‘The Bart Project’ it has been a pretty easy process, to be honest. As an honest celebration of the wonderful Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson, the words have often composed themselves, or been reflections and repetitions of the many, many messages and conversations that we have shared with you collectively or individually.

Today is plainly not so straight forward. It is an all too obvious reminder of who and what we have lost, a painful throwback to those raw emotions of a year ago and an anniversary that none of us wish to be a part of. The one person who we would choose to share today with will not be here to do so and let’s not kid ourselves, that’s a really hard and unpalatable fact of life. We miss you, Bart.

After posting this, I am off to Weymouth to help turn this desperate anniversary into something that we hope will make May 9th a positive

Video: Nathan Outteridge first ride on the FP @Carnac 2014

The first part of video shows Nathan out of the box first helm ride on the Flying Phantom. The second part was shoot at the end of the day, Outteridge sailing with a youth from the RSBC.
The video shows how easy is to foil in those specific conditions, check the end and how he is just cruising. After that ride I got on board to crew for him. Some minutes to adjust and later it was the same relaxed ride, I even left the mainsheet at ease for moments. Once the boats sets in trim, the word to describe the ride is

Eurocat 2014, F18 Day 1: Blown Out

Rainy morning at Carnanc, the sky got clear later with a fresh building 20knots breeze. Fleets went out but later race was cancelled for the day.
First pic Christophe Mourniac and his son Tim. Many big names present this year beyond the migration to the N17. AC45 wing trimmer and former F18 World Champ Arnaud Jarlegan, is teaching to race multis to

Morgan Lagraviere, 49er sailor. Both racing for Safran team.
I also finally  met the other part of the former Dark Horse team, Lamberto Cesari, who is racing for Hobie with another good known to me Italian guy, Carlo de Paoli.
