This weekend we had strong offshore winds , +30-40 knots that made impossible to run any left regatta on the F18 class for the Buenos Aires Week 2010:1005 participants, 23 Classes: Optimist Timoneles (169), Optimist Principiantes (148), Cadet (12), Europe (7), Laser Standard (42), Laser Radial (70), Laser 4.7 (28), 29er. So the F18 sailors couldn´t try some of the excellent tips or implement the on the water clinics by Nacra boss, Gunnar Larsen, that left Buenos Aires last Thursday after one week of hard work with the local fleet. Gunnar left an image of full profesionalism and gained the respect of the entire fleet.
So final results were the scores of last week. Cruz Gonzalez Smith (23rd at Erquy) and Mariano Heuser won the championship with 5 bullets a 3r and a 4th, dominating the fleet in strong and calm weather. 2nd Juan Faustin and Lucas Gonzalez Smith rinding a Nacra with SI sails, 3rd Tornado sailor Esteban Blando and Julio Saubidet- Next: Argentine F18 Nats November 12,13,14

Manu Boulogne will be officialy presenting his new F18 design, the protoype was tested at Erquy, and recently they won the CataGolfe raid. Yet another F18, the class continues with a full growth world wide.

F18 Argentina: Racing Video

A really good video filmed by Gunnar Larsen for Clinics, although not HD, you can see our trademark "bumps" course and also some light conditions.
'If you guys can sail in these conditions, you can do well in any place' was Gunnar's conclusion after the first of racing the BA Week with 20 knots and choppy short steep waves conditions on the last race.
It had a good music track but it was out off by ytube , at least here in Arg.
Yesterday we practiced starts, and tack techniques. Today the clinic continues with more work today on the water.

New SeaCart 26

Press Release.- New SeaCart 26 set for take off
To complement the full-carbon offshore-capable SeaCart 30 that made its debut in 2005, Oceanlake Marine is excited to launch a new 26-foot One Design trimaran for inshore and coastal racing.
Oceanlake’s quest was to create a One Design trimaran that delivered true high-performance for its size, and one that far exceeds expectations for a production boat. The design brief stipulated that the boat must fold to make berthing and trailering quick and easy. It also had to be versatile and suited for both course and distance racing.
Multihull expert and designer of the SeaCart 30, Marc Lombard, was the designer. Marc’s prior accomplishments and experience with the 30-footer enabled him to be instrumental in the evolution of the SeaCart 26. Mike Drummond, a member of BMW ORACLE Racing’s Design Team and America’s Cup Hall of Fame, was consulted as a technical advisor. Calle Hennix, founder of Oceanlake Marine, has brought this most recent SeaCart project from concept to reality once again.
...
While it boasts systems that will excel when sailing, particular focus has also been given to making it easy to handle when not. A super-light and very efficient folding system has been developed that with the addition of a supporting set of stays allows the mast to stay up even when the boat is folded. A roll-on/roll-off cradle kit can also be supplied to suit road trailers, and two boats will fit into a standard 40-foot container for shipping.

Tim Shuwalow, Oceanlake Marine’s International Sales Manager says, “I’m eager to expose and promote these great boats to a broader audience. The SeaCart 26 will excite multihull enthusiasts, and monohull sailors have never had an easier opportunity to get into multihulls. It will be a great boat to race for everyone!”
“Our vision is to create a multihull class that enjoys the strength of numbers seen at regattas like those for Melges sportsboats. Melges is a great example of strict One Design racing, there’s no sports multihull class that comes close but we’re getting set to change that!" says Tim.
“Never before have multihulls received as much attention as right now. So the timing of the SeaCart 26 is perfect because it will be within the reach of many sailors giving them the chance to sail a high-performance yet easy-to-manage boat, with low running costs,” Tim concludes.

F8 Argentina: Gunnar Larsen technical talk

Part of the local fleet
Gunnar yesterday gave us a full insight talk about all the technical aspects on racing an F18, the local fleet has a good combo with experienced' F18 sailors (3 years tops) and new cat sailors so the questions were covering from basics to some speficic tehcniques for our river. He put enfasis on our local tough conditions, and forhim that is the key for the reasonable good level of the local fleet insuch a short time, as we need to try harder.

But he also touched the key issue..., someone asked him which was the secret to win... hehe well , he gave us the answer, but you'll have to visit us next year if you want know that!

Full detailed answers from Gunnar, with a lot of patience. We are really thankfull with him for his disposition. Today we'll have
an on the water clinic.

Great championship for the F18 class, with Gunnar Larsen helping with some tips to the whole fleet, he even made a crew to get down their main sail to set up their battens. I was on the boat with him, some good conditions with flat water, a contrast with yesterday's bumps course.
Photo left Gunnar exchanging thoughts on the main with local Capricorn builder, Ian Rodger. We are expecting more international visits next year.
Results of day 2 to come.
