2009: The Year of the Cat

We lost the Olympics (for now) but we assaulted the AC! gaining major exposure.
AC 33 on Multihulls was the main reason why the traditional monohull sailing community started talking and looking with more interest our speedy crafts.
IShares, the Tornado fiasco, the F18 numbers, and several other factors contributed to a high level of exposure. Nevertheless we must keep going as we need our spot in the Olympics back for 2016.
Remembering people that push forward for the sport like Pierre Sicouri, we are obligated to continue his legacy and keep the Multihull torch flaming.
Goods winds for 2010!

The Best

Esteban Blando and I crewing "Lord Marstrom"
The Big T is still beachcat King, no matter what our ISAF friends decided.
In the year where we definitely lost Multihulls at the Olympics, a good reminder for all of us to keep going and have multis back for Rio 2016.
Good Xmas for all and a better 2010.

"Sailing has long resisted technological advancement"

From Freep.com - Must read Article submitted by Bob Merrick.

By ERIC SHARP

FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER

In 1876, Nathaniel Herreshoff entered a 33-foot catamaran called Amaryllis in a New York Yacht Club Centennial Regatta and scared the crap out of the yachting establishment by winning going away.

The radical boat, the first of its kind to race in the United States, was amazingly advanced, with touches like ball-and-socket joints at the end of the crossbeams that let the hulls ride the waves independently.

After Herreshoff won the race for yachts under 36 feet, the anonymous writer who covered the event for the New York World described Amaryllis as “a nondescript, half-Catamaran , half-Balsa and wholly life-raft constructed by Mr. Herreshoff, of Providence” and that “whether ruled out by the judges or counted in, can justly claim to be the fastest thing of her inches under canvas that floats, and it is doubtful if there are any steamers of her size that could out-speed her in a straight reach with the wind abeam.”....

F18 Italy: Winter Championship at Calambrone

Calambrone (Pisa) Italy , Sunday December 20, 2009

Report from Marco Radman - F18 ITA 23: "Ice and snow in Italy. But the races are ready in Calambrone !With polar temperature (never up to 2 °C during the day!) was sailed at the Circolo Vela Sunset Calambrone the 3rd day of the Winter Championship. It were sailed two race with wind from the east around 15 knots and a beautiful sun. In the first race wins De Grenet-Marzorati on Fava-Giannatempo and Ferrari-Poggetti at third.

Unlucky figure for Radman-Lai (they were not at the skipper meeting ...) who led the race, crossed the finish line after only two laps, but the race is on three laps (fallen into error also Ferrari-Poggetti but they restart soon)! In the second race Ferrari-Poggetti try and succeed in a splendid start on left tack which will manage well the race and win.

Second the goods Fava-Giannatempo that crossed the finish line at the photo finish on Radman-Lai third. In A-Class Farnesi won all two races, and in HC16 class the first was win by Pellegrini-Giacomelli, and the secon was win by Frassi-Querci.

Good idea made the races on three short laps. Good configuration for training and "temperature" of the crews. Thanks to the boys on the raft who managed the races well and many crews who came from outside although the weather was not particularly inviting.

I take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all F18 sailors!" Marco Radman

New AHPC F18: C2 Sailing

Final tough sailing conditions for the C2, although it manages to end with a good "stress test" session!
We need more quality pics, (will ask Brett) but check the height of the freeboard at front beam level in the 1st pic, I think is higher than the Infusion...

Patagonia Argentina: Beachcat Cruising at its BEST!

The two brand new RC "South Cruiser" and their 1st raid

The previous version was heavier and with an 8mts mast, this 09 version is light as an F18 hull and also has 9mts mast, but 2,90wide platform, they are reporting 500% or more gain in low winds comparing the 06 version

This is the last time you see that tent over the tramp...check below

Hey! Those are Brazilian color Gennakers... jeje

Patagonia Argentina and two Custom Home and Hand Made Machines

Pablo Querol , pic taken by Felipe Tomassi (Pandiani´s partner at Cabo's Raid on those Hobies 21)

This landscapes awaits you down here!

More info pending, but this is the FINAL position after an AIR FRONT ROLL over the other Cruising cat 9mts mast after a 100km Tornado hit them asleep below the tramp... believe it or not.... that was a close call, they told me by cell phone today.

All these pics are poster Material! Surf style Cruising... and yes that's Wine... Classy South boys

I´m proud of the local F18 class, but I'm also proud of being able to provide these moments to cool clients and friends. Full report on Monday, these pics were received 20 mins ago!

F18 South America: Uruguay 1st F18 Regatta

Cruz Smith (With his brand new Infusion) with two bullets is leading the championship, he is wearing his "Estudiantes de la Plata" Tshirt, team that missed the glory today against Barcelona by 1 minute as they were 1-0 at 89th min!

In March 2007 we took the 1st F18 to Uruguay, (Argentina`s neighbor crossing Rio de la Plata)
Later that year we made a demo at the YCU Yacht Club Uruguayo, some were really interested and others were rather skeptical with the class (no cat racing there before too).

After we launch the class in Argentina in 08 and imported boats start coming in early 2009 the same skeptical people started to think again about the class, and some local monohull sailors gather with the YCU to import the firt fleet of Hobie Wildcats in South America.
5 Arg boats are racing and showing the newbies how its done, so is a good chance for the new F18 sailors in Uruguay to train against experienced sailors, and to you mister "B" , you owe me an apology! So watch out monohull sailors as the "beachcat" racing is here to stay.

Sadly I couldn`t be there with my F18 as I was delivering an RC16 in Patagonia (Rada Tilly), pics pending and also an incredible story of two RC 18 Cruisers in Puerto Madryn ...
1st Wildcat ride, the same for her crew...

New AHPC F18: "C2" from Paris Boat Show

Finally the New AHPC F18 was revealed at the Paris Boat Show, same event where the Wildcat made a public debut.
At 1st glance the boat resembles the Cap, but that was said about the Infusion and the Wildcat too! So AHPC 1st F18 was a trendsetter and the C2 is (to me) a fine evolution of the Capricorn.

More overall volume, a dead flat tramsom, cutout bow are more visible modifications from their previous F18. Also full carbon daggers and rudders gives the boat an even more "Pro" touch.
Also I like that Da-Kine strap! as mentioned some posts ago that was about the only feature I could criticize about the Cap.

So AHPC is showing their cards now to compete against the Infusions and the brand new Wildcats and Shockwaves. The F18 has several alternatives and its boat providers are showing total commitment with the class.
Again the F18 has proven to be the Perfect Formula. Congrats to AHPC for this new machine.
